Bird of a Feather

play night at ccp 002
Breck had his school play last weekend where he was a duck.  This was in the car on the way to school.  He was a little nervous, but pretty excited!

Getting ready with his buddy, Eric.  Two cute ducks :)

They had just opened the curtains and all the kids were waving to the crowd.  Breck's face tells you that "wow, there are a LOT of people here."  But he saw us and seemed to relax a bit.

Here are the 4 ducks.  I hope to get a video up too since they did such a good job.

In the middle of singing his song.  Always love these plays!  The kids do such a nice job and the teacher do a lot of work to make it happen.   Lots of laughs, some tears, and this year one bloody nose! :)  Not by Breck!

U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame

hockey hall of fame 001
We took a little trip north to Eveleth for some more hockey!  Shawn had to ref a game in Virginia so we went with him so we could stop at the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.  Breck thought this stick chair was super cool!  It even has goalie sticks :)

Cullen also wanted to sit in the stick chair.  It kind of makes him look small, something he is not!

hockey hall of fame 006
There is seriously something in the Burns boys blood for wanting/needing to be a goalie.  He is even in his "goalie" pose for this picture.

Had to get a shot of some Miracle memorabilia!

hockey hall of fame 017
Checking out the 4th Zamboni ever made.  Cullen spent 70% of the time we spent here sitting at the Zamboni.  Both boys were really excited about it.

GO WILD!!!

hockey hall of fame 020
We noticed this ref case and Breck went running over to it and said "Mom, it's my birthday!!"  He was right, on March 15th this guy (sorry I don't remember his name or what happened on this day) but we were just excited to see his birthday!

hockey hall of fame 021
And back to the Zamboni!

hockey hall of fame 022
It's becoming more clear to me that hockey trumps everything.  They didn't want to look at much after the Zamboni because you can play hockey at 3 different places here.  So that is really all I got to do.  Supervise slapshots!

hockey hall of fame 025
Or Box Hockey, I think it was called Gockey for some reason.  This was fun, but not for long cause the sticks were "too small".

hockey hall of fame 039
So they moved on to the BIG sticks.  Here that got to see how hard they could shoot.  Breck got 20 mph in this shot but did get up to 26 at one point.  For some reason it didn't register with Cullen even though he's got a hard shot.

hockey hall of fame 035
Then Daddy hit a few and got 75 mph!  Nice work, Shawn.

hockey hall of fame 045
Cullen and I did find the Hobey Baker area and found a list with all the recipients as well as the statue.  So saw our friend Junior Lessard's name and the most recent Bulldog, Jack Connolly.

hockey hall of fame 048
Couldn't leave without a picture of Breck with a Breck jersey!

hockey hall of fame 052
And our happy lil guy driving the Zamboni!  Man it was hard to get him to leave.  We had a great time enjoying the sport that has taken over our life!

hockey hall of fame 057
After a great day at the Museum we watched Dad ref a game.  Other crazy events throughout the day were that we witnessed a roll-over car accident on our way up(driver was ok), the temp. dropped significantly throughout the day and the wind was insane, Shawn accidentally let go of a door that hit Breck in the head, both boys ate more than mom and dad at subway,  the weather got so crazy we couldn't even get a picture by the BIG stick.
I can't wait for many more family trips full of crazy times, good memories, funny stories, tantrums, and most of all, my favorite people!

Holy Hockey....Portman!

portman 1-12-13, burns letters 024
Last weekend was the Portman Tournament and they did the line up.  So adorable, watching the kids wait for their name, skate out to the blue line and spray ice to stop, and tap their sticks for the other kids.

They even did the national anthem.  Breck was a really happy kid!  Most kids got antsy and started moving off the line, and doing other things...but not Breck.  He stood still, on the blue line, singing, and waited to tap his stick until the song was over!

Challenging another player (something he's working on )  We have been talking about what Breck's "goals" are for the game.  And so far it's helped him decide what he wants to work on, what he wants to do in the game, and how to try new things.

This was the first weekend that outside hockey had really been COLD! Culley needed a little hot chocolate to warm up.  It looks like a really tasty mustache :)

Waiting his turn.  And wondering if his teammates are taking a nap?

Going for the wrap around goal and just missed.  But it was still pretty sweet! Great weekend of hockey, Breck!  Now for a few weekends without hockey :)

EAST & UMD

portman 1-12-13, burns letters 010
Last week Glen Avon Hockey kids got to play in between periods of a East vs. Grand Rapids High school game.  Here the boys are patiently waiting to get on the ice and trying to watch some of the game.  I don't have pictures of him playing ( I took video, so I will see if I can post it) but they had a great time.

A few of the parents of boys Breck plays hockey with are past UMD Bulldog players themselves and they arranged to have a few current players come to practice.  The boys thought it was SO cool.  Here Breck (in green jersey) is asking the guys to play a game with him after practice.

Andy Welinski - who is a Duluthian and a former Glen Avon kid.  Breck skated with him at the Bulldog skate at the beginning of the year and shot around with him again this evening.  Nice kid! Derrick Johnson and Wade Bergman were also there.

Duluth Heights Tourny

Coaches trying to get the kids pumped up.  So they told them to be race cars and get up.  They even started VROOMing.  It worked!  They amped up their game :)

It took a while for Breck to get into the swing of things, but here he is scoring a goal!

Look at him go!  He was a scoring machine.

It was so much fun to have both sets of Grandparents come and watch Breck's tournaments so far.  Breck has just improved leaps and bounds since starting.  He is gaining more confidence and learning what his role is with each game and practice.  It's going to be a lot of fun watching this kid :)

More hockey :)

I am starting to wrap my head around the how much hockey is in my future.  I thought that with how much the boys play at home that it might "get old" but now Breck is teaching Cullen's "hockey school" in the basement.  I got this picture when they came up for some water.

portman 1-12-13, burns letters 016
Cullen is definately Mazie's boy.  He has always loved cuddling, playing, and picking on her.  I saw him laying on her and grabbed the camera to capture the sweetness of it and Mazie turned and licked him when I did.  So cute!

Shawn goal judges for some UMD Hockey games and he has to wear a badge to get him in to the game.  Well the boys also wanted badges, so that was our project while daddy was gone.

portman 1-12-13, burns letters 019
Yes, I know they look like mug shots, but they insisted they take the pictures against this wall.  Just like daddy.

portman 1-12-13, burns letters 021
See Daddy, don't we look like you?  We are goal judges too!

portman 1-12-13, burns letters 065
Breck has had hockey 14 out of 18 days this month.  He hasn't seemed to mind, but Cullen on the other hand is worn out!!  I carried him in from the car and layed him down while I helped Breck out of his gear.  He didn't even move while I took off all his stuff.  Poor kid.

Today was the first snow day we have had in a long time.  The boys were super excited to go outside.  But first they need to wave goodbye to Dad.  They do this every morning.  Stand in the window ledge, bang on the window, and yell "Bye Daddy" and wave as he walks thru the yard and down the alley.
Some days it's frustrating that they "need" to do this, but most days it's really sweet and it warms my heart that they love their daddy so much <3>

I didn't take my camera outside while we played but we had a good time.  We needed to follow up with hot chocolate and crackers at a "cafe".  We stayed in our pj's all day, had tons of fun, relaxed, cuddled and you guessed it, played some hockey.

Red Jamboree & Congdon Tourney

g avon, hartley 114
Just before Christmas Glen Avon had a Jamboree for the kids and it was super fun.  It was a beautiful day and Breck had his first chance to play a "real" game! :)

g avon, hartley 118
Going hard for the puck (against Hayden) and enjoying the game!

g avon, hartley 122
Breck's first tourney  was the Congdon Park Jamboree at Lower Chester.  He is number 18 in red.  His G & G Burns, and uncle Greg were in town to watch him play.  He did ok, considering his fever!

g avon, hartley 130
Looks like he's skating hard, but most likely he was skating away from the puck and players to work on stopping.  He was not feeling good and it was obvious to the onlookers.

Greg and Shawn discussing life, love, and sharing their deepest secrets! Or just watching hockey.

The ref dropping the puck.  Breck was really excited that they had refs!

One of the few times he got the puck!

Cullen taking Greg to see the Zamboni!

High fives!  Nice game Maple Leafs and great job, Breck for playing the whole game and being a good sport while feeling so yucky!  Very proud of you <3>
